Equality4Flatbush Founder Imani Henry Talks Racism and Gentrification
“Racism is a part if it,” said Equality for Flatbush founder and social worker Imani Henry about how neighborhoods are deliberately targeted for gentrification. He said what is currently happening in Brooklyn is the reverse of “white flight.” Those who migrated to the suburbs are now returning to Brooklyn and current, poorer residents are getting forced out.
“There is no where to build in the suburbs so let’s come back and we’re going to push people out,” he said. “There are too many Black people over there. There are too many Latino people over there. There are too many poor people. Let’s get them out.”
